When a brother praised me for having high standards, I was a bit annoyed. I appreciate the intention behind the complement, but I don’t like how this implies that those standards are my own, that I’m simply going above and beyond the call of duty.

My “high standards” come simply from my desire to follow Christ, to be like him in every aspect, to be holy as He is holy. But among these “high standards” of being like Jesus are compassion and humility: of these latter two I still have much to learn. But this I know for sure: I follow God’s standards, not my own.

To God alone be the glory, through faith alone and by grace in Christ alone according to His divine Word alone.
