I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

— Ephesians 1:18–19

Paul, even being considered the greatest of the apostles, felt that he himself had nothing to offer the Ephesians—who were doing well in their faith—to help them grow further. He points them immediately for God and offers only his prayer and thanks. Let this also be a reminder that when we’re doing well spiritually,

  • We should not be content to sit on our laurels and pat ourselves on the back
  • We should instead clasp even tighter to the “Author and Perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:12)

Let this also be a reminder that Christ is the source, the seed and the sunlight to grow us. It is nothing that we do but what the Father gives.
