O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

—Psalm 139:1–4

In the spirit of Mike’s post, I’ll share what song comes to mind — and in a way, it should, as it means that we’re praising him for who is he and what he has done — when I read the first phrase, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me!”

Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart, and You love me the same
You are amazing, God
You are amazing, God

— “Indescribable” by Chris Tomlin

“You see the Depths of My Heart”

In our most brutal, naked, honest moments I can know that I am rather wretched. I have very few motivations to do many things that are not either self-driven or obligation-based: this is the “right” thing to do, what you should do, etc. When I honestly look at myself, at times, if I didn’t have to, I wouldn’t want to live with myself.

“And You Love Me the Same”

In the light of this, I definitely agree with Mike’s post of God’s amazing grace and how he accepts us as we are, and how our identity in Him is unchanged. Once we become a child of God, we only become either rebellious anew or, through Him, an obedient son of God. Notice how the son of God part has not changed. Too often we forget grace and how He has already paid the price to deem us children of God. Nothing then can change our identity in Him. Praise God.

For me, this is a very succinct answer to the age-old question:

Does God care? In a very real and everyday way?

God’s Provision

And I can say with complete confidence that indeed He does, if He loves me in the way that He says He does and expresses this in the little things as well.

I just want to mention how this kind of implies foreknowledge* and how God has made out a plan for each and every one of us and how comforting this is that we have a purpose and a (fulfilled) life in Him.

Closing Thoughts

In response we only have praise and adoration as we live our lives in thankful gratitude of an un-repayable debt of love our Savior has passed to us. In His grace He asks that we give our lives to Him alone so that we may live a new (and fulfilled) life as he originally intended for us to live.

*God’s foreknowledge coexists with our free will. Exact details are of great theological debate.

Yet another song this reminds me of: “I am understood” by Relient K.

Sometimes it’s embarrassing to talk to You
to hold a conversation with the only one who sees right through
this version of myself I try to hide behind
I’ll bury my face because my disgrace will leave me terrified

And sometimes I’m so thankful for Your loyalty
Your love regardless of the mistakes I make will spoil me
my confidence is in a sense, a gift You’ve given me
and i’m satisfied to realize You’re all I’ll ever need

You looked into my life and never stopped
and You’re thinking all my thoughts
are so simple but so beautiful
and You recite my words right back to me
before I even speak
You let me know, I am understood

and sometimes I spend my time just trying to escape
I work so hard, so desperately, in an attempt to create space
cause I want distance from the utmost important thing I know
I see Your love, then turn my back, and beg for You to go

You looked into my life and never stopped
and You’re thinking all my thoughts
are so simple but so beautiful
and You recite my words right back to me
before i even speak
You let me know, I am understood

You’re the only one who understands
completely
You’re the Only One who knows me yet still loves completely

And sometimes the place I’m at is at a loss for words
If I think of something worthy, I know that it’s already Yours
And through the times I’ve faded and You’ve outlined me again
You’ve just patiently waited to bring me back and then

You looked into my life and never stopped
and You’re thinking all my thoughts
are so simple but so beautiful
and You recite my words right back to me
before I even speak
You let me know, I am understood

Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
Your voice has broken my defence
Let me embrace salvation
let me embrace, let me embrace salvation
